December 20-22, 2002:

Hot  WE DID IT!!!!!  Hot

Celebrating Patsy Cline, Inc. was successful in its effort to acquire items from the auction of Patsy's clothes and costumes that was held in Beverly Hills on December 19. Here's the scoop, as reported in Friday's edition of the Winchester Star:
Fan Club Buys 2 Patsy Cline Blouses Through Auction

By: Stephanie M. Mangino
The Winchester Star

Two blouses owned by Patsy Cline are coming home to Winchester, courtesy of Celebrating Patsy Cline Inc. and two women in an Ohio hotel room.

As they breathed in Cline’s favorite perfume, Wind Song, Lisa Flood of Michigan and Theresa Shalaby of Pennsylvania submitted phone bids for an auction of Cline items from the hotel room in which a “Cline Shrine,” as Shalaby put it, was assembled.

The pair had been authorized to bid on behalf of CPC, said the group’s treasurer, Judy Sue Huyett-Kempf, who was waiting by the phone to hear from Flood and Shalaby.

The call about the blouses came at 4:13 p.m., just moments after the auction’s 4 p.m. Eastern time start.

Flood said many items didn’t sell, but the one thing CPC planned to bid on — a pair of white cowboy boots with gold wing detailing — was $250 beyond their grasp.

According to Profiles In History, five items sold at the auction: the Yellow and Plaid Blouses, the Carnegie Hall Lace Dress, the Jade Green Lace Dress and the White Cowgirl Boots. In post-auction negotiations, the Dice Maternity Dress, the Sky-Blue Cowgirl Outfit and the Silver Lamé Ensemble were also sold. At last word, negotiations on the remaining items were ongoing since several of them are under a court order to be sold to pay costs related to the settlement of Mrs. Hensley's estate.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who donated to the CPC Acquisitions Fund so that we could bid. Although the headline in the above article mentions the fan club, it needs to be emphasized that Always Patsy Cline WAS NOT involved in this effort. This was a true grassroots effort from the fans, under the loving and protective umbrella of Celebrating Patsy Cline, Inc. We could not have been successful without your help.

Thanks to Theresa Shalaby and Lisa Flood for coming up with this idea, as well as their tremendous enthusiasm, hard work and love for Patsy Cline. Thanks to Judy Sue at CPC for embracing us "wild and crazy" fans who wanted to bring something of Patsy's back home to Winchester.

As Theresa and Lisa have said, when we work together, we CAN make a difference. The auction yesterday was proof.

The next step is to complete the purchase of Patsy's home at 608 S. Kent in Winchester. To learn more about this, click Here for additional information.

Thanks again.

On February 11, 2003, Sugar Hill Records will release a new Willie Nelson compilation album titled Crazy: The Demo Sessions. The album was culled from a reel of tape marked "Pamper Demos" that was found in vaults of Sony/ATV Music in 1994. Among the tracks is the actual demo recording of "Crazy" that was given to Patsy by both Billy Walker and Willie Nelson (via Charlie Dick).

Jimmy Walker reports that Rutledge Hill Press will issue the long-awaited "Remembering Patsy" book in January. Author Brian Mansfield, and WSM Photographer Les Leverett, will participate in a book signing at a Davis-Kidd Book store in Nashville in January.

Last March, WVPT-TV, a PBS station based in Harrisonburg, VA, broadcast an original documentary entitled "Patsy Cline: The Lady Behind The Legend." The hour long program traces Patsy's life, giving a behind the scenes look with stories and memories from the hometown folks who knew and loved her. Also featured are Patsy's contemporaries in Nashville, and newer artists who have been heavily influenced by Patsy's story and her music.

WVPT is releasing the documentary to PBS stations nationwide at the APT (Association of Public Television Staions) teleconference in January, with distribution in March or April. Because WVPT doesn't have the rights to sell it, the documentary is being offered to fellow PBS stations for free. APT is currently reviewing the program to make sure WVPT isn't sending them something inappropriate, that the subject is acceptable and that the quality is up to par.

Once APT determines the release date, stations who pick up the program may schedule up to 4 airings in the next 2 years at their discretion. If you would like to see "Patsy Cline: The Lady Behind The Legend" broadcast in your area, please contact the Programming Director at your local PBS station and request that they pick it up at the APT Teleconference.
